The Crossing of the Sea and the Creation at the service of God's children

 Wisdom 19: 6 - 12

IECOT version (Kohlhammer, Stuttgart, 2019)

Editor: Luca Mazzinghi  Translator : Michael Tait

For the entire creation was

fashioned anew, as at the

beginning, in its own elements,

obeying your commands, so

that your children might be

preserved unharmed.

Now the cloud was seen

covering the camp with its

shadow and the dry land rising

up where previously there was

water;  a path without obstacles

in place of the Red Sea and a

verdant plain instead of billowing

waves

through which they passed, like

a single body, protected by your

hand, spectators of marvellous

wonders.

They were like horses led to the

meadow and leapt like lambs,

praising You, O Lord, their

deliverer.  For they still

remembered what had happened

to them during their sojourn in

a foreign land, when the earth,

instead of producing animals,

brought forth gnats

and the river, instead of

aquatic animals, vomited

a multitude of frogs.

Later, they also saw a new

production of birds

when, impelled by desire,

they sought delicate foods:

to comfort them, there came

up quails from the sea.

Clear references here to the creation

account in Genesis cause us to think of

a temporal nuance, not a NEW creation

as much as a creation RENEWED.  The

exodus is a new beginning, a return to

the origin of a creation that is definitively

placed at the service of God, where every

created element finally reveals what it really is.

. . .The quails come up from the sea (Exodus

16:13 / Numbers 11:31).
