Wisdom, the Will of God, and Salvation

Wisdom 9 : 13 - 18

IECOT translation (2019, Kohlhammer, Stuttgart)

For what person will be able to know

the will of God? or who will be able

to imagine what the Lord wills?

The reasoning of mortals are hesitant,

and uncertain our reflections.

For a corruptible body weighs down

the soul (GREEK: psychen)

and this tent (see Letter to Hebrews 11:9)

made of earth oppresses a mind

burdened with cares.  Certainly it is

with difficulty that we imagine the

things of the earth and with labor that

we find out what is close at hand.  Who

could track down the things of heaven?

Yet your will -- who could know it,

if you had not granted wisdom and sent

(Apostle Paul also uses this GREEK verb

'edzapostello in Letter to Galatians 4:4 + 4:6)

your holy spirit from on high?  Thus

the paths of those who are on the earth

were made straight and people were

instructed in what is pleasing to you and

through wisdom they were saved!
