When is the Full Moon during December 2021? "Cold" Moon

from Old Farmer's Almanac (www.almanac.com) :

December's Cold Moon reaches peak illumination on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:37 P.M. EST

Start looking for the full Moon just before sunset as it begins to peek above the horizon. To find the exact time that it will appear in your area, consult our Moonrise Calculator.

What makes this full Moon special? It's most distinctive for its high trajectory across the sky, which results in the full Moon sitting above the horizon for a longer period of time.

Hoosier Legislators fail to act after pushback regarding Vaccine Mandate Repeal Sp. Session cancellation

story at WVPE (National Public Radio, N. IN)

Several dozen Hoosiers rallied at the Statehouse Monday 11/29 – a day lawmakers were supposed to come in for a special session on COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Republicans announced plans last week to suspend all rules and pass, in a single day, a bill that would effectively ban private companies from enforcing COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

But they got significant pushback from the state’s top business and health care organizations. And so they canceled their plans, pledging to revisit the issue when they return for their regular session, in January 2022.

Philosophies of life -- main characters in "Broadway Danny Rose" film directed by and starring Woodie Allen

 from readthespirit dot-com/

Danny and Tina are on the run from gangsters out to do them in.

Intending to go into hiding, they stop by his apartment so he can pack a few personal things. Unimpressed with his untidy lodgings, Tina says it looks like a dump and that he is a loser. Danny disagrees, and as they talk he learns of her old ambition

of being an interior designer (though we learn she has no real taste

for good design—nor for that matter, does Danny).

As he has supported his small-talent clients, he encourages her,

even when she says it is too late for her.

They also share philosophies of life,

hers being to grab all you can while you can.

Danny sums his up in three words, passed on to him by his Uncle Sidney,

“Acceptance, forgiveness, and love.”

Comparing and Contrasting the trials of 3 killers (Rittenhouse, McMichael, Zimmerman)

from interview posted at Politico dot-com

In terms of the defense’s approach, I think a lot of it is really similar. It’s almost as if what happens in these cases is the defense goes and looks at the other past cases to see how they did it and what they did. Like I was saying before, one pattern I see in both the trial of George Zimmerman and the trial of the McMichaels and Bryan is the defense reversing the roles of victim and perpetrator to make it appear the unarmed Black young man — in Trayvon’s case a boy, a teenager, and in Ahmaud Arbery’s case, a young man — appear as monstrous and frightening as possible. So that’s one thread of continuity is the framing of Black masculinity as a lethal threat in those cases.

The other thing that happens is the framing of white masculinity as good citizenship, as good guys with guns. And I do want to acknowledge that George Zimmerman is Latino. He’s not technically a white person, either. However, when police see him walking down the street, they don't assume that he is a person of color. There’s this idea that “good citizens” can go out and patrol other people’s property with firearms and threaten people’s lives in the interest of protection of property. They’re playing cops, basically.

And in George Zimmerman’s case, and in Kyle Rittenhouse’s case, they’re totally getting away with it based on the claim that they were in fear for their lives. That’s the other trope, too: The magic phrase is “I was in fear for my life.” There are certain people for whom that becomes the magical, exonerating incantation. When police say it in a courtroom after killing, especially a person of color, the police are given the benefit of the doubt. When these white and white-passing armed citizens say that they were in fear for their life, they’re given the benefit of the doubt, and that’s the other pattern that we see here.

Busiest travel day of year -- depends how you count Travelers

 for 2021 :

It’s true that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is when roads in major U.S. metro areas are most congested, and most holiday travel is by car. But for air travel, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving isn’t even in the top 10 busiest days of the year.

WHAT WE FOUND

The busiest travel day of the Thanksgiving holiday differs by mode of transportation.

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the busiest day of the year for airports nationwide in 2019 was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The agency screened more than 2.8 million people that day, the most ever in the agency’s 20-year history.

President Biden's pardon of Thanksgiving Turkeys (will it be Peanut Butter or Jelly?)

POLITICO lead paragraph from today's preview Friday Nov. 18 pardon ceremony

What goes together better than peanut butter and jelly? Peanut butter, jelly, and turkey, of course!

At least that's how the White House sees it. The names for the two turkeys who are eligible for the presidential pardon this year are Peanut Butter and Jelly. A video from the White Hous showed the two birds ruffling their feathers in a room at the Willard Hotel, preparing for their close-up. On Friday Nov. 18, President Joe Biden will pardon one of the two and dub the bird the official 2021 Thanksgiving turkey — although both birds will be spared from the Thanksgiving table. [they will live and not be slaughtered at Purdue Univ., W. LaFayette, IN]

House Minority Leader takes time during record-setting speech to address "Baby Carrots"

8+ hour long speech is not only his personal longest speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, it is also longer than the one which Speaker Pelosi herself gave when seeking to extend "immigration rights" to those who were DACA children/youth.  This coverage - summation of Kevin McCarthy (R-California) speech that lasted 8 hours 38 minutes is excerpted from THE HILL dot-com

McCarthy's speech primarily included the main GOP arguments against the legislation, blasting it as "reckless" spending that wouldn't address the costs of inflation on Americans' minds.

But McCarthy also spent much of his remarks veering into topics such as immigration at the southern border; his inability to afford a Tesla and friendship with the electric vehicle company's owner, Elon Musk; the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan; baby carrots; the deli he opened in his youth; his experience getting a COVID-19 booster shot earlier Thursday; and the Wednesday vote on a resolution put forth by Democrats to censure Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and remove him from House committees

Why is the bottom of Hell (Dante's INFERNO) frozen, both narratively and thematically?

from 100 days of Dante (Honors program, Torrey College, Biola University) web article

Canto XXX of "Inferno" = first of three sections of Divine Comedy

  • Why is the bottom of hell frozen (both narratively and thematically)?

  • Why does Dante need the assistance of the Muses in lines 10-12? How does Dante’s use of the “ineffability topos” heighten the horror of the final circle of hell?

  • What Christian sign of peace and reconciliation is being parodied in lines 46ff?

  • The bottom of hell is far more silent than most of the previous circles. Why might this be? Why would the worst sinners tend to be more anonymous, less verbose? How does Dante read the spiritual condition of the damned in their eyes?

  • Is there any irony in the damned being frozen in the mythological river Cocytus (the river of wailing and lamentation)? Why would Dante deny the damned here the ability to weep?

  • What causes Dante to kick a sinner in the face? What does this say about Dante becoming an instrument for divine justice?

Price of Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 to rise 14% this year

 CNN online article

Thanksgiving dinner will cost 14% more this year, according to new survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation. Dinner for a family of 10 will cost on average $53.31 — up $6.41 from last year's average of $46.90 which was down 4% from 2019, the lowest in 10 years.

Several factors led to this year's increased pricing, including more Americans expected to cook at home as well as economic disruptions.
"These include dramatic disruptions to the US economy and supply chains over the last 20 months; inflationary pressure throughout the economy; difficulty in predicting demand during the COVID-19 pandemic and high global demand for food, particularly meat," said Veronica Nigh, senior economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation.
The biggest ticket item — turkey — is up 24% since last year. But there are a few caveats. Grocery stores started advertising lower prices later than usual this year.

Action and Address by former President (Donald John Trump) during and following Jan. 6 Insurrection at Capitol

from USA TODAY article that includes facts from Jonathan Karl book "BETRAYAL"

Trump video to rioters: First takes didn't ask them to leave Capitol

Trump had to record a message calling off his supporters from their riot at the Capitol several times, according to Karl.

In the now-infamous video, Trump tells supporters to go home and ends with, “We love you. You are very special.” In earlier versions, though, a White House aide told Karl that Trump never told supporters to leave the building.

“He complained about the election. He empathized with their anger, but he didn’t call on them to go home,” Karl wrote.

What did VP Mike Pence do when Secret Service assisted his exit from Senate Chamber (Jan. 6 insurrection)?

from USA TODAY article detailing some of Jonathan Karl "BETRAYAL" facts revealed:

    Nov. 17 - - online edition

    Pence refuses to leave Capitol

While other leaders were taken to Fort McNair, Vice President Mike Pence refused to leave the Capitol. Unpublished photos Karl reviewed show Pence in a windowless garage with no furniture, where he remained for five hours.

For hours, Pence refused to get inside the vice presidential motorcade for fear that it would take him from the Capitol.

In one photo, Pence’s chief of staff Marc Short uses his phone to show him Trump’s tweet saying the vice president had no courage.

Allusion in Canto XXXI of Dante's "Inferno" to GIANTS (Baruch, chapter 3 verses)

    Baruch 3: 26 - 37

26 The giants were born there, who were famous of old, great in stature, expert in war.
    27 God did not choose them, or give them the way to knowledge;
28 so they perished because they had no wisdom, they perished through their folly.
29 Who has gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?
30 Who has gone over the sea, and found her, and will buy her for pure gold?
31 No one knows the way to her, or is concerned about the path to her.
    32 But the one who knows all things knows her, he found her by his understanding. The one who prepared the earth for all time filled it with four-footed creatures;
    33 the one who sends forth the light, and it goes; he called it, and it obeyed him, trembling;
34 the stars shone in their watches, and were glad; he called them, and they said, "Here we are!" They shone with gladness for him who made them.
35 This is our God; no other can be compared to him.
36 He found the whole way to knowledge, and gave her to his servant Jacob and to Israel, whom he loved.

37 Afterward she appeared on earth and lived with humankind.

    Lunar Eclipse - Nov. 19, 2021 -- begins 2 a.m. Eastern

    from Old Farmer's Almanac (almanac.com/)

    • The first dot of Earth’s shadow will start touching the Moon at 2:19 AM Eastern time.

    • The Moon will be high in the sky. See when the Moon rises and sets in your location. You may see the Pleiades star cluster (the Seven Sisters) near the Moon.

    • For the next hour and a half the Moon will get increasingly blacked out, until at very nearly 4:00 AM EST (or 1:00 AM PST)the eclipse will reach its maximum. So that’s the sweet spot, the early hours of Friday morning, November 19, with the Moon now lowish in the west and looking distinctly reddish since Earth casts a red shadow into space.

We’ll finally get the real deal.

    AN ALMOST-TOTAL ECLIPSE IN 2021

This is a fabulously odd eclipse set to coincide with the full Beaver Moon. It’s technically a “partial lunar eclipse.” The Sun, the Earth, and Moon are lined up in almost-perfect alignment so that the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow and turns dark. See all eclipses for 2021 and 2022—and eclipse definitions.

However, what’s unusual in the case of this partial eclipse is that it will be up to 97% covered by the Earth’s shadow—almost total! Don’t feel any disappointment that the Moon will not get totally 100% eclipsed. Sure, when it comes to solar eclipses, totality is everything. It’s super important because that’s when all the fantastic stuff happens. But not with the Moon.
