Security perimeter around the cathedral is significant more

wide with roads blocked off, and more concrete barriers and

fencing -- less in years 2018 (G.H.W. Bush) and 2007 (Ford).

Steve Ford and Ted Mondale to read eulogies written by

their late fathers.

NO State Funeral was held in 1994 was held for former

POTUS 37 Richard M. Nixon who died in Loma Linda, CA

and was buried at the Nixon Library alongside his late

wife, Pat.

BTW -- POTUS 39 Carter and Rosalynn did attend the

Funeral of their successor, Ronald Reagan -- it was a

State Funeral with burial at the Library, in S. California.

UPDATE (Jan. 15, 2025):  former FLOTUS Michelle

Obama has stated that she will NOT attend the inauguration

of re-elected Pres. Trump and first-time VP Vance next Monday.

The tradition / streak of those leaving the White House and

remaining in DC for the next transfer of power was broken

in 2021 by then-FLOTUS Melania (Knauss) Trump who

left by helicopter from Maryland to a counter-scheduled

event with MAGA supporters ahead of the Biden-Harris

inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021 (after the Jan. 6 insurrection

that same year).  Incumbent POTUS Joseph

Biden and FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden did attend the Inauguration

speech and ceremony that had been moved inside to the

Capitol Rotunda due to inclement weather all weekend

through Monday 20 January.
