All State Department nominees must after May 17 receive 60 votes in the U.S. Senate

Brian Schatz of the Hawaii Senatorial

caucus has blocked individual nominations

to become Ambassadors just by "unanimous

Consent" -- this means such State Department

appointees as Cabinet-level official

U.N. Ambassador; also,

Ambassador to the Holy See

(Vatican City, world's smallest

sovereign nation).  Other

named would-be diplomats

must receive a minimum of

60 senators' approval.
