Much of what Qohelet says is disturbing and difficult
to reconcile with the remainder of the Old Testament.
Scholars have made numerous attempts to address
this problem, and the diversity in approaches highlights
the depth of the problem. In the end, however, the frame
narrator calls us to recognize that Qohelet is right:
the speculative wisdom of
Qohelet cannot make sense of the
world. The narrator points to
another answer:
obedience to God
(Ecclesiastes 12:13)
