Do American residents / citizens / students-workers "only" speak English?

Polling and survey data

demonstrate that 3/4 of

Americans speak only

English at home. However,

in Puerto Rico, 94 percent

of residents speak Spanish.

This Presidential Proclamation

(1 March 2025) also overlooks

the native language movement

and expressed wishes of

tribal groups ranging from

native Alaskans to 

the Cherokee (many states)

as well as the Navajo / Dine' 

(170,000 speakers).
