In trying to stop the party line vote, Senator John Kennedy (GOP - Louisiana)
moved to adjourn the Senate until May 1, 2004.
The President Pro Temp Patty Murray would have ruled such a
motion out of order and the vote on the 2 "charges" brought
by House Republican managers sent over by Speaker of the House
Mike Johnson (also of Louisiana) was 49 - 51; falling far below the
needed Constitutional requirement of 2/3 of the Senators present.
Vice President Kamala Harris would have voted to break a time
if the Senators present had tied at 50-50.
