What does a New Year bring us?
POET Dana Gioia offers an answer in his
13th of 99 Poems (2016, Graywolf Press)
"New Year's"
This is the feast of our mortality,
the most mundane and human holiday.
. . . . .
The New Year always bring us what we want
Simply by bringing us along -- to see
A calendar with every day uncrossed,
A field of snow without a single footprint.
