A little more than 100 years ago -- Warren G. Harding -- who loved Golf, Baseball

 Avid fan of baseball, often throwing out the first pitch;

would even attend "Opening Day" of Baseball schedule

for the "Washington Senators";

in 1921 Harding attended the U.S. Open (golf)

and awarded the trophy to Champion Jim Barnes;

when he became president in 1921 he pledged to

return the country after W.W. I and the Influenza ("Spanish

Flu") epidemic that was worldwide to

normalcy after the era of Progressive

reform and world war.

Harding died suddenly August 2, 1923

and his vice-president was awakened

at his family farm in Vermont and

immediately sworn into office :

Calvin Coolidge.  Republicans would

continue to hold the Executive branch

through the 1928 - 1933 (Feb. 28) administration

of Herbert Hoover.
