Dean of the College of Cardinals
(91 years old)
will preside over the Papal Funeral
which for 2025 will feature simpler
rituals in keeping with the more
down-to-earth informal style that
became a trademark of Pope Francis'
career.
UPDATE: He read some of the opening
liturgy at 4:20 a.m. at the Outdoor Mass
in St. Peter's Square, Vatican City.
Francis designated in his will that he will
be buried in the earth in a simple coffin;
in the papal basilica of St. Mary Major.
As a 91-year-old, Cardinal Re
therefore is NOT
in charge of the Conclave [252 cardinals,
190 of whom may vote for the next Pope
since they are not older than 80].
