Clayborn Temple
294 Hernando Street
caught fire and MFD
(Memphis Fire Dept.)
was quickly on the scene
at 1:40 a.m. Owner Anasa
Troutman said, "It's 130 years
of history and one of the most
sacred place in our city/region."
It was originally founded in 1892
as Second Presbyterian; striking
sanitation workers gathered there in
1968 to _march to City Hall. Civil
rights organizing brought Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. there in April. The
Clayborn Temple closed in 1999 and
the building was undergoing renovations.
