Psalm 33 - 21st Century translation - Pamela Greenberg's THE_COMPLETE_PSALMS (2010)

Sing out to God, all who are righteous!
To the honest, praise brings pleasure.

Thank the Holy One with the harp;
with the ten-stringed lyre make melodies.

Sing to the Source of Life a new song;
make music out of sadness that blasts forth with joy.

For God's word is straightforward.
All divine deeds are evidence for faith.

The Holy One loves righteousness and justice;
eternal kindness flows throughout the earth.

God, with your word, the heavens were created.
With a breath of your mouth all heavenly spheres.

You gather into a heap all the seas' water,
pouring them into vaults of the deep.

Let the earth be awed by your presence
and its inhabitants be overcome by wonder.

For you spoke and it came to pass;
you commanded and your word became act.

You overturn the greed of nations,
restraining their wrongful designs.

Your counsel, Holy One, stands firm forever;
the designs of your heart from one generation to the next.

Happy is the nation for whom God is their Longing,
those who choose the Highest as their own.

From the heavens you gaze down
and see all who are mortal.

From the foundation where you dwell,
you take notice, Holy One, Upholder of all who live on earth.

You are the one who shapes their hearts to unity of purpose,
who understands all their acts.

No king is saved by a great army.
A mighty soldier is not saved by mere strength.

A (war) horse proves false hope when it comes to salvation.
With all its power it cannot provide means of escape.

Look!  God's eye shines upon those who revere the holy,
those who long for the divine presence --
to rescue their souls from death,
to keep them alive during famine.

Our souls wait for you,
our help and our shield.
For in you our heart rejoices.
In your holy name we have placed our trust.

May your love, God, be upon us,
whenever we long for you.
