from Hollywood: The Oral History (2022)
fellow actor : Maximillian Schell (interviewed)
Spencer Tracy, was, for me, the
most professional actor I ever
met and the most human and
the best. It's just that simple.
Although he had his tricks, too.
He had his cliche's, too, but they
were just so good and not yet used
by others that he could use them
over and over again. He was aware
of them and he always had a certain
vanity, like every actor, but he was
so simple. His whole life he conducted
so beautfully and so dignified; he was
just a great human being. I think
the film camera captures the
personality of a human being and a
film actor much more than the theater.
. . . Katharine Hepburn gave up
years of her life just to be with him, and
he was just a great human being.
