Love him or hate him, Kid Rock has become a celebrity figurehead for Metro Detroit. It makes sense, then, that he'll perform during halftime of the Lions' annual nationally-televised Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field.
Rock confirmed the appearance on a phone call with The Detroit News, explaining he will perform the title track from his upcoming album, Born Free.
Considering the Lions will face former U-M star Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, Detroit may have little to celebrate beyond Rock's performance. Unless Ndamukong Suh makes an extra point.
The Romeo native and current Clarkston resident has been busy promoting his new album, which comes out Tuesday. In recent weeks he's released a beautiful music video filmed in Michigan's upper peninsula, joined Jon Stewart at the Rally to Restore Sanity and performed at the CMA Awards.
Rock turns 40 on Jan. 17, and he plans to celebrate in grand fashion. He told the News he's planning a separate Ford Field show to mark the occassion and is talking with Comedy Central about filming a roast at the Fox Theatre.
