The reason that the Japanese forces didn't immediately
by the second week of August 1945 surrender and
accept occupation by the Allies (U.S., Europe, Canada,
Australia, more) is
that an official surrender had to take place
involving the commanders of troops as well
as the monarch of Japan, Hirohito, and Prime
Minister Hideki Tojo also had to submit.
On September 5, 1945 (80 years ago)
an official Surrender Ceremony had to take
place on battleship USS Missouri between
Foreign Minister Shigemitsu and General
MacArthur. That ended the part of W.W. II
that was centered around the Pacific and
East Asia.
