Why isn't V-J Day the next day or week after the Hiroshima or Nagasaki A-Bomb attacks? (August 6 and August 9)

The reason that the Japanese forces didn't immediately

by the second week of August 1945 surrender and

accept occupation by the Allies (U.S., Europe, Canada,

Australia, more) is

that an official surrender had to take place

involving the commanders of troops as well

as the monarch of Japan, Hirohito, and Prime

Minister Hideki Tojo also had to submit.

On September 5, 1945 (80 years ago)

an official Surrender Ceremony had to take

place on battleship USS Missouri between

Foreign Minister Shigemitsu and General

MacArthur.  That ended the part of W.W. II

that was centered around the Pacific and

East Asia.
