The VP who succeeded the first president who died in office,
John Tyler, only had a one-term Presidency but did leave
behind 15 descendants
when he was himself 72 at
the time of his death in 1862.
John T. died in Virginia opposing
the then-POTUS Abraham
Lincoln's efforts to end slavery
and put down the Confederacy
which had as its capital,
Richmond Virginia. Youngest
of John Tyler's 15 children was
Lyon Gardiner Tyler and his
own son,
Harrison Ruffin Tyler, died
this week in the 21st century.
Sunday evening, May 25, 2025
at the age of 96.
Harrison's death comes 163 years
after his grandfather John's death
in 1862.
