1700 years later ecumenical event (East & West Christianity) -- expectation in 2014 that Pope Francis would meet at a date in 2025 to mark anniversary of Council of Nicaea

Pope Francis and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, 

who met last weekend (May 24, 2014) in Jerusalem, 

have agreed to plan an ecumenical meeting in Nicaea in 2025. 

The first Council of Nicaea was held in 325 A.D. 

It brought together Eastern and Western Christians 

who approved the formulation of the Nicene Creed. 

Today Nicaea is known as Iznik, Turkey, southeast of Istanbul.
