St. Thomas Day, St. Thomas gray,
The Longest night and the Shortest day.

In England it was observed as
Thomasmas
people went door to door
"Thomasing_" or "Gooding"
in their communities -- asking
for donations of money or food :
this practice ensured that no one
went without for Christmas.

the custom on St. Thomas Day
was to scare away demons or
evil spirits with screeching,
banging, howling with fearful
costumes
