August 6, 1945 was the
date at 8:15 local time that
the Enola Gay dropped the
Atomic Bomb "Little Boy" on
the Japanese city 1,800 feet above
the military-industrial city;
killing 80,000 in first minutes.
It was a uranium bomb.
Three days
later a different flight mission
dropped "Fat Man" on
Nagasaki, an ancient site
where Christianity had first
taken root in feudal Japan.
Military planners moved the
drop site from Kokura a more
strategic military target but
cloud cover made the second
devastated city's 2-mile area
totally pulverized and 73,000
civilians killed.
