more than 1.4 million people in Puerto Rico were blanketed in darkness Sunday

as Hurricane Fiona brought an islandwide power outage and battered the territory

with heavy rain, winds, and life-threatening flooding.

The hurricane made landfall Sunday afternoon,

bearing down with severe winds up to 75 mph.

and bringing 6 - 24 inches of rain to some areas by the end of the day,

according to the National Weather Service.
