House Debate on Syrian Rebel Aid
Lawmakers debate and pass, 273-156, an amendment to H.J. Res 124 that would authorize spending to train Syrian rebels so they can fight Islamic State militants. The Senate is expected to take up the measure on Thursday September 18, 2014.

Nine Democrats, 12 Republican and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) voted against the government-spending measure that includes authority for the president to arm and train Syrian rebel groups.
The measure was approved in a 78-22 Senate vote.
