Wisdom 15 : 1 - 6
IECOT commentary/2019 translation
Editor: Luca Mazzinghi Transl. Michael Tait
But you, our God,
are good and faithful,
you are patient and have
mercy while you govern all
things. Even if we sin, we
are yours, acknowledging
your dominion, and we
will sin no more, because
we know we belong to you.
To know you is perfect
justice,
to acknowledge your
dominion is the root of
immortality.
For neither has the invention
of a wicked art deceived us,
not the sterile work of those
who draw shadows,
an image smeared with
different colors, the sight
of which arouses the passions
of the foolish. Someone
desires the breathless form
of a mortal image.
Enamoured of evil and
deserving to have such
hopes are those who make
them, desire them,
worship them.
