James Vanderkam, professor emeritus of Old Testament in Univ. of Notre Dame
College of Arts & Letters (Theol. Dept.), will receive American
Academy of Arts and Sciences Scholars membership ( http://amacad.org/ )
along with 261 new inductees for
work of substantial and excellent quality -- he was a co-editor of DJD (Discoveries
in the Judean Desert): the scrolls and manuscript fragments found around Qumran
(Israel near the Dead Sea).
Vanderkam published in 2018 a commentary on the ancient
Book of Jubilees (Fortress Press), revered by the Qumranites (some think Essene community).
