Stephen Schwartz, who had
been asked 12 months ago
by the National Opera (D.C.)
host a fundraiser GALA,
by then-Board / management
Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts -- has announced he is declining
the privilege of that major honor as Emcee.
Despite Schwartz's long history of collaborating
with the artistic endeavor which was
"founded to be an apolitical home for
free artistic expression for artists of
all nationalities and ideologies" Schwartz
now believes "it is no longer apolitical
and appearing there has become an
ideological statement."
He was the composer of Wicked,
Godspell, and Pippin. The invitation
to host came him at the end of 2024.
His last communications with then
managers / Board of KENNEDY
CENTER
was in Feb. 2025.
