May 16, 2026 Gala (Washington D.C.'s national opera company) -- loses its host STEPHEN SCHWARTZ

 Stephen Schwartz, who had

been asked 12 months ago to

host as a major composer of

renown by then-Board / management

of the

Kennedy Center for the Performing

Arts --

despite his long history of collaborating

with the artistic endeavor which was

"founded to be an apolitical home for

free artistic expression for artists of

all nationalities and ideologies" Schwartz

now believes "it is no longer apolitical

and appearing there has become an

ideological statement."

He was the composer of Wicked,

Godspell, and Pippin.  The invitation

to host came him at the end of 2024.

His last communications with then

managers / Board was in Feb. 2025.
