Trump - Musk efforts to fire without cause

or notice high-ranking employees / administrators

Mid-afternoon last Friday of May :

May 30, 2025

Kim Sajet

the DIRECTOR of the National Portrait Gallery

one of the Smithsonian institutions

has been pink-slipped and told to

turn in parking pass and email password.

The independence of the Smithsonian

seems to be a relic of the long-past.

The Smithsonian is governed by a board

of regents that appoints a secretary to serve

as the institution's chief executive.  About 2/3rds

of the institution's funds are provided by the

federal government and the rest is raised

privately.

Update: Thurs. June 4, 2025

The director of audience engagement has

asked commissioners not to speak to the media

until Smithsonian officials determine their

next move.  NY TIMES article -- firing is met

with doubt and silence /Arts/Design
