Record turnout for the Iowa GOP Caucus voting (statewide total)

In 2016 when then-Senator Ted Cruz won the Iowa Caucus over Donald J. Trump (businessman)

186,000 Republican caucus-goers participated.

Cruz won with 51,666 over Trump 45,427.

Also in 2016, Democratic winner Hilary Clinton 

received 49.9% of the caucus-goers'

votes while challenger Bernie Sanders (independent)

received 49.6%.  Iowans sent 23 delegates

for the eventual nominee (H. Clinton) 

at the Democratic National Convention 

in 2016 while 21 still supported the dissenting

candidate: Bernie Sanders.

The 2021 Census lists that 3.193 million people

live in the state of Iowa.  Its Black population is 

117,035.
