UPDATE (June 9): The Silver Beach swimming advisory is lifted after the most recent water samples came back with acceptable levels of E. Coli.
Now folks are cooling off in the waters of Lake Michigan.
The advisory went into effect Tues. around 3:00 P.M., but by 10:30 A.M. the next morning the Berrien County Health Department said it was safe to swim at Silver Beach.
These high bacteria levels typically stick around for less than two days before naturally diluting away.

No swimming is allowed right now at Silver Beach in St. Joseph.
This is due to high levels of the bacteria E. coli in the water.
Silver Beach County Park is still open, but there is no swimming allowed.
The elevated levels of bacteria were found during routine testing.
According to the Department of Environmental Quality website, the bacteria levels must fall under 300 E. coli per 100 ml. in order for people to be allowed in the water.
Tuesday's test results showed levels of 2,000 E. coli per 100 ml.
The water will be tested again on Wednesday, and results will be posted on the park department's website.
