Black History - Cultural dialogue event -- IU South Bend: Friday Feb. 23, 2018, 7 p.m.

The Civil Rights Heritage Center at IU South Bend invites the community to a special event to kickoff Black History Month. IU South Bend will host “Celebrating Malcolm X” featuring special guest Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of legendary civil rights leader Malcolm X.
Shabazz will join Civil Rights Heritage Center Director Dr. Darryl Heller at the Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall, IUSB Campus, South Bend, IN from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required but guests should arrive early to ensure seating. Heller and Shabazz will engage in a dialogue about her life, her father’s legacy, and her own work and activism. There will also be time for questions from the audience.
Shabazz, the third daughter of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz, is a widely celebrated educator, author, and activist. In 2002, she published Growing Up X, her memoir about being Malcolm X’s daughter. She has since published several additional books, including her novel X, which received a 2016 NAACP Image Award.
