Elections to replace 3 deceased Democratic Congress Reprs. - - Gerry Connolly, Raul Grijalva, Sylvester Turner (UPDATE Sept. 23, 2025)

Tuesday Sept. 23 -- a historic day

Democrat Adelita Grijalva wins 70% of vote in Arizona's 7th District

while Republican Daniel Butierez won 30% in the special election certified results

to fill a Congressional seat after a death from terminal cancer last March.

This changes the amount of leeway that Speaker Johnson has to force

through bills in the 2025-2026 Congress (435 members in House of Repre-

for Sylvester Turner who died March 2025

Texas law allows the Houston House of Repr. seat for a

replacement to take 8 months / Grijalva's seat will be filled

after Sept. 23, 2025 ; 

While the Virginia seat previously held by Gerry Connolly

who died in July 2025 will

be filled by James Walkinshaw (D)

by 4 votes despite 2 GOP members

Fitzpatrick and Massie opposing the tax / spend measure
