Indeck Natural Gas Plant (constructed 2019 - current) will be tested before 2022 operation onset

21 people have been hired to work at the plant and are currently going through training.

Testing begins in October 2021, and the energy center is supposed to be fully-operational by March 15.

Construction of the Indeck Niles Energy Center is wrapping up as it prepares for testing. Local and company officials say the facility will be generating power for many states in the Midwest once it’s up and running.

This $1.1 billion project has been in the works for a while. It’s been a point of discussion for the city of Niles for about 20 years. Soon, this once unused, contaminated area will be a major power hub for the Midwest.

Construction started on the Indeck Niles Energy Center in 2019, bringing in 400-900 construction workers at a time.
