Church will read the KJV, cover to cover (Sunday - Friday) as fundraiser

Location: St Margaret of Scotland, Aberlour, Banffshire, United Kingdom
Organisation: St Margaret of Scotland, Aberlour
Topic: Bible

Details:Start after morning service on Sunday 4th September at 10 AM, after Morning Service. Reading will start at 9 AM on each succeeding day. Each day's reading will end at 9-11 PM, however long it takes. Reading will finish in the evening of Friday 9th September, to be followed by a party at St Margaret's.
As well as being a celebration of the 400th anniversary of the King James' Bible and a happening which will bring many people into the Church who had not been there before, this event is part of a major fundraising exercise, to raise money for repairs and renovation of St Margaret's Church.

We are making good progress with our planned reading of the Bible in the King James version. This is the 400th anniversary year of the publication of this version and we are celebrating this milestone with a complete reading, using the event as a means of raising funds for our repair and renovation project.
There are 67 books in the Old and New Testaments, including the Song of Solomon. We estimate that it will take us about 85 hours to read them all, and plan to start on Sunday 4th September at 10.00am after our morning service. If we read from 9am till 9pm continuously, we should be able to finish with a flourish on Friday evening, September 9th.
We are asking volunteers to drop in and take over the reading for as long as they are available, and we ask them for a minimum sponsorship of £1 per chapter.
We envisage the readings as follows:
Sunday: Genesis-Deuteronomy, setting the tone with splendid language and the Bible's story of the beginning of the world. A long but inspiring day
Monday: Joshua-Chronicles 2, full of interesting stories, the walls of Jericho, Samson, David and Goliath, Solomon, the historical part of the Old Testament
Tuesday: Ezra-Isaiah, a tough day but some interesting things to read, the Psalms, Proverbs and Song of Solomon - about 15 hours
Wednesday: Jeremiah-Malachi, the stories of Daniel and the lion's den, and Jonah in the Whales belly - a shorter day of about 11 hours
Thursday: Matthew-Acts of the Apostles, familiar parables and stories of Jesus' life
Friday: Romans-Revelations, when we could be a bit 'demob happy!' a fun day, ending with the marvellous book of Revelations, which should only be seven hours long, all being well.
What a marvellous way it will be to reinvigorate our knowledge of the Bible, to take part in a community event and to raise funds!
