Christmas in June - June 20 - 21, 2018

Every year, across Southwest Michigan, food pantries see themselves fully stocked in the winter months and holiday season. However, when summer hits, food donations go down and their shelves are harder to keep stocked. This can leave low-income, hard working families with very few options. We are asking local businesses to help us stock the local food pantries with items (IN GROUPS OF 100) to help them through the summer months.  We will be collecting all the items on June 20 and June 21 and we will have drop-off locations at:

Upton Middle School, 800 Maiden Ln. St. Joseph, MI 49085

Buchanan Middle School Cafeteria, 610 W 4th St. Buchanan, MI 49107

Brookside Learning Center, 61662 Dailey Rd, Cassopolis, MI 49031

Our participation in this global Day of Action will bring some much needed cheer to local families, and those in our community who serve them.

• NASA is in a position where companies "can do commercial management of the International Space Station," NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine tells The Washington Post.
• Bridenstine declined to specify which or how many companies he had spoken to.
• None of the companies building private space platforms expressed interest in taking over the ISS when CNBC spoke to company leaders in February 2018.

President Trump will host a dinner in the coming week in honor of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, restoring a White House tradition that he had abandoned during his first year in office, a West Wing official said on Saturday (6/2/2018).

The dinner is expected to be held on Wednesday (June 6, 2018). The guest list was not made available.

Mr. Trump has a long history of making inflammatory statements about Muslims. During his campaign, he told an interviewer, “I think Islam hates us.”

He repeatedly insinuated over the years that former President Barack Obama might be a Muslim, and in 2015 he said he would seriously consider closing mosques. Late that year, he issued his call for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” and as president he issued a series of travel bans that mostly targeted Muslim nations.

The dinner, which was reported earlier by Politico, will revive a tradition that Republican and Democratic presidents have carried out for years during Ramadan, when Muslims fast during the daylight hours. A meal called an iftar breaks the fast.
