St. Swithin was a reversed Anglo-Saxon Bishop
of the ancient Christian church and a trusted
advisor/ counselor to kings of Wessex.
He died quietly in
862 C.E. (common era)
and is the namesake/cause of the
saying
"If it rains on Saint Swithin's
day (July 15), it will rain for
40 more days!"
He is revered_ on the Anglican
calendar at the Winchester Cathedral
for his charity and piety.
