When did Portuguese traders introduce firearms and Christianity in Japan?

The Muromachi period --

the heyday of the samurai, the

Muromachi period was one of near

constant civil war.  Feudal Lord's known

as daimyo consolidated their power in

local fiefdoms.  Peasant rebellions

and piracy were common.  Nevertheless,

trade flourished.  The movement

of armies required daimyo to build

roads, while improved communications

gave birth to many merchants and artisan

guilds.  Trade with China grew,

and in 1543 Portugal began trading

with Japan.

This period of time

included the West

introducing firearms

and Christianity.  Noh

theater and the tea

ceremony were founded,

and Kyoto's most famous

temples were built in this

period (1336 - 1568 C.E.).
