A mix of rain and snow is expected to roll through the state late Thursday (2/4/2021) and into Friday (2/5), making for a potentially treacherous Friday commute with nasty, “snow-covered roads, gusty winds, low visibility and tumbling temperatures,” according to NWS Grand Rapids.
While snow accumulation is expected to be light by Friday morning, wind gusts of up to 50 mph near Lake Michigan could cause power outages. Outages are most likely along the lakeshore. Away from the lakeshore, wind gusts are expected to top out at 40 mph.
Temperature highs through next Friday, Feb. 12, are expected to be in the teens or even the single digits with lows potentially dipping below zero. Wind chills will be especially bad – below zero – from late Saturday night (2/6) through at least Tuesday (2/9).
