November 2020 Planets - conjunctions (almanac data)

In November, all five bright planets will be visible. Except for Mercury in the predawn east, all of the planets fade a bit during the month of November. However, they are still easilly visible with the naked eye.

The night sky showcases three of the five visible planets: Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

  • Both Mars and Jupiter appear as the evening dusk fades. Look to the East for Mars. Look to the West for Jupiter!
  • As evening dusk fades, use bright Jupiter to find dim Saturn. The Ringed Planet is about 5 degrees to its east. (Five degrees is roughly the width of two fingers at an arm length from the eye.)
  • Have you noticed bright Jupiter continuing its steady march toward Saturn? The pair are now visible only in the first few hours of each night. Watch as they continue to draw a little nearer to each other each week until their long-awaited close pairing in mid-December (more about that next month!).
  • On November 18 and 19, the lovely crescent moon floats near Jupiter and Saturn after sunset.
