The Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in partnership with The Grand Raids African American Museum & Archives is pleased to host its annual Community Kwanzaa Celebration on Friday, December 28 from 6 pm – 9 pm. This is a FREE event, in which we encourage the entire family to attend.
Kwanzaa is a pan-African and African American holiday founded by Dr. Maulana Karenga that is observed from December 26 – January 1. Kwanzaa is a celebration of family, community and culture and is based on seven African harvest festivals:
Umoja: Unity
Kujichagulia: Self-Determination
Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility
Ujamaa: Cooperative Economics
Nia: Purpose
Kuumba: Creativity
Imani: Faith

Prior to the celebration, attend the African American Museum’s art auction. Preview art and then place your bid during a silent bid that will start at Noon and end at 9 pm. All donations are tax-exempt and will support the programming and growth of the museum – a model of Collective Work and Responsibility in our community.
