Severe Heat Advisory (July 4 - 5, 2018)

beginning Wed. 11 a.m. July 4th until 8 a.m. July 5 (Thursday), 2018

* Temperatures will reach the low 90s this afternoon with heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees. Heat indices will remain in the middle to upper 70s tonight providing little relief overnight. Winds are also expected to be light today and tonight limiting any cooling effect. Those attending outdoor activities this evening will still be at risk of heat exhaustion.

. IMPACTS...

* The heat will lead to hazardous conditions particularly for the elderly, those with preexisting health conditions and pets. Little in the way of beneficial cooling will occur overnight in homes without air conditioning.

* Keep in mind that heat indices are in areas with at least some shading. People in full sunshine could experience heat indices several degrees warmer.

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
