Niles Star has details -- (Feb. 25 edition): www.nilesstar.com/
"Malerie Quick, a single mother of Aiden and a 5-year-old daughter Kylie, said she found out about Habitat for Humanity through co-workers at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph who received homes in the Benton Harbor area.
Quick met the low income requirements and was chosen for the home, which began its construction in September and is nearing completion.
A dedication ceremony will take place Saturday and will include a prayer of blessing from a local minister and turning over the keys to the family. Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based non-profit, and the Niles-Buchanan chapter builds one home a year.
It’s during a time when little other construction is being done in the city.
There have been three building permits issued in Niles for new constructions since January 2008 and all three have beenHabitat homes.
Quick said she and her children currently are living with her mother at Berrien Woods apartment complex.
“Being a single mother of two kids with limited income, this is a chance to give them a forever home,” Quick said. “It’s amazing what they (Habitat for Humanity) do for people. There are a lot of hard-working volunteers.”
Quick’s house is the 26th new or rehabbed home that Habitat for Humanity has completed."
