Iowa Caucuses - February 2020 - changes proposed (to be voted on by Political Party authorities)

from NY Magazine -- online "Intelligencer"

• The 2020 satellite caucus proposal will allow for additional caucus locations on February 3 to expand participation for people who cannot attend their in-person precinct caucus …
• Iowa Democrats can apply to hold a satellite site at places like factories, group homes, or community gathering places, to better accommodate people who cannot attend their in-person caucus. This option will be especially useful for shift workers, Iowans with disabilities, Iowans serving overseas, and students.
• The IDP will create a special satellite-caucus review committee that will review applications and determine approval …
• The results will be reported using the same method as precinct caucus locations. The satellite caucuses will create one additional county in each congressional district.

First day of fall weather - Autumnal Equinox

The summer season ends at 3:50 a.m. Monday September 23, 2019 (Eastern Time Zone).

The autumnal equinox—also called the September or fall equinox—is the astronomical start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
What is an Equinox?
The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in terms of length.
During the equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension into space of Earth’s equator line. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line. When the Sun crosses the equator from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal equinox.
After the autumnal equinox, the sun is rising later and nightfall comes sooner. This ends with the December solstice, when days start to grow longer and nights shorter.

EEE Virus exposure threat makes FB start changes desirable

from Michigan Live! (www.mlive.com/)

Several school districts in Southwest Michigan have moved up kickoff times for Friday’s high school football games to daylight hours in response to the recent outbreak of Eastern equine encephalitis.
The mosquito-borne virus has killed three people in Cass, Kalamazoo, and Van Buren counties, and it has also been detected in humans in Barry County.
On Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services encouraged local leaders from Barry, Berrien, Cass, Genesee, Kalamazoo, Lapeer, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties to consider postponing, rescheduling or canceling outdoor activities, particularly those involving children, in an effort to protect public health.
In response to those recommendations, at least 12 high school football games in Southwest Michigan will be played at least an hour ahead of the normal 7 p.m. kickoff time in an effort to complete the contests before peak mosquito hours.
